Notice a few more flashes going off in your conference sessions? A few more questions from the back of the room? Getting stopped in the halls by eager young inquisitors? You can blame us. Welcome to year two of the AEJMC Reporter, the newspaper of the AEJMC Annual Convention. Once again the Newspaper Division and AEJMC are bringing you the panels, plenaries and paper sessions you hated to miss, as well as perspectives on sessions you attended. And once again we’re offering journalism students an opportunity to practice their craft under the guidance of professors and professional journalists who have graciously offered their time and talents. Chief among these is this year’s editor, Erna Smith of San Francisco State University, who has pulled long hours organizing the staff, securing rooms and equipment, and bringing in advertising revenue. Truly, the Reporter would not be in production without her stalwart efforts. Erna will also direct the work this week. If you see her, please give her a pat on the back. If you’d like to give a little time to mentor students’ reporting, writing, editing, photography , design or multimedia this week, give Erna a ring at (510) 508-2884 or email at ersmith@sfsu.edu. The Newspaper Division and AEJMC would like to thank all who advertised in the Reporter. The revenue you provided has been crucial. Thanks also to our colleagues who have agreed to help the students as they work this week. We’d like to give special recognition to Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez and Lorraine Branham of the University of Texas at Austin who did a brilliant job publishing the first edition in San Antonio. We’re planning do this again next year. If you have suggestions or questions, let us know. In the meantime, enjoy San Francisco, enjoy the convention, and enjoy reading about it in the Reporter.
