Bombshell Betty and the Burlesqueteers put on a sexual spectacle at Jack Adams Hall in the Cesar Chavez Student Center Thursday night.

The show began with eight dancers on-stage in knee-length lingerie, multi-colored feather boas, and black fishnets. By the end of some of the acts, the Burlesqueteers were topless amidst delighted applause from the evenly male and female crowd.

“I put on the show because I wanted to expose students to the beautiful art form of burlesque -- the whole vaudeville, music, jokes, sillines, appreciating the female form -- something I wanted to bring to San Francisco State instead of your usual DJ, band, film,” said Depot Manager Alison Victor. “It was fabulous, very creative and exciting.”

This is the second time Victor booked the act. Last semester, a smaller show was booked at the Depot.

“I saw it last year and it was fabulous, but I had to leave early,” said Peter Davey, 34. “This time I got to see the entire show. I thought it was amazing. I liked how spontaneous it was. There’s not really many breaks. You didn’t really have time to come up for air, you were just diving into the burlesque, which was really beautiful.”

An estimated 20 BECA students filmed the show for extra credit.

“It was a different style of production to be a part of a big crew,” Randy Tan, BECA lecturer, said. “To really make this a pro type of experience for the students we had audio students in charge of the audio and the video students in charge of the video. Both working independently.”

Two friends who saw the show for ten minutes did not like what they saw.

”It was too much,“ said Laura Covarrubias, 19. “I don’t mind nudity when it’s in the movies because it’s on screen, but this was a live show, so it was right in front of me. I didn’t like it.”

Her friend Stephany Sedlmayer, 18, described Bombshell Betty and Sweet Cheeks galloping on two green chairs to the William Tell Overture.

“It was very scandalous because her nipple thingy came off,” Sedlmayer said. “Maybe I’m just too young to appreciate something like this. It was very provocative and promiscuous. I was exposed to a nipple today.”
