Crispin Glover screens film at Castro Theatre
Crispin Glover presents It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine.

In the 74-minute film, "It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine", directors Crispin Hellion Glover and David Brothers capture a genre-styled movie that lives out a fantastical life of screenwriter and actor, Steven C. Stewart.

Depending on who sees it,"It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine" is like art, and can be interpreted in many ways.

“I think [the movie] means a lot of things, [in which] they [all] genuinely come across [in the film]. [Our goal was to] make sure to not interfere with a naïve element that was apparent in the screenplay,” Glover said.

Stewart, who had cerebral palsy- which can be “any number of neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect body movement and muscle coordination […and] is caused by abnormalities in parts of the brain that control muscle movements”- died after a collapsed lung within one month after completing the film. The eclipse of Stewart’s intelligence had been clouded by his physical capabilities, as he was sent to live in a nursing home for a decade during his early 20s after his mom's death.

Cerebral palsy or not, many people experience some of the same things as Stewart’s character, Paul.

“[Stewart] had a charming quality; [by looking at the film, one] could tell [Stewart had a] rebellious quality and humor [about him]," Glover said. "My struggles are easy compared to somebody like him.”

The first installment of this three part film, had been completed after a couple of years of editing- in January 2005.

Stewart incorporated part of his life in this film- from the use of flexi straws to his love for long hair, of which in the film- he goes into great detail with.

Without giving away the movie, Stewart apparently had a thing for women with long hair.

“He wasn’t an analytical type of guy. Someone once asked him why he like long hair, and he simply answered that he just do,” Glover said.

When Stewart was married, it’s been said that his divorce was partly because his wife had cut her hair.

The cast of “It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine.” features Steven C. Stewart, Margit Cartensen- actress and star of multiple Rainer Werner Fassbinder films, Jami Ferrell, Carne Szlasa, April Hogland, Bruce Glover (Glover's father) and Lauren German.

Glover also played in a number of other films, including November's hit movie "Beowulf", “Back to the Future”, “Charlies Angles”, “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” and so on.

With the film and his books, Glover also plans to publish the screenplay and continue to tour around to shoot part three of "It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine" as well as other projects.

“My next project will be on editing a film called “A Backward Swing,” Glover said.

Tonight, at midnight, the ‘It’ trilogy, “What Is It?”, a film displaying characters with down syndrome, will be showing at the Castro Theatre.
