Trail Of Car Parts Ends At Fine Arts Building

A one-car accident occurred on the SF State campus around 9 a.m. on June 23 next to the Fine Arts building.

Two unidentified women were in a dark blue BMW when the driver of the BMW drove onto the sidewalk from Tapia Drive, clipped a parked car, hit recycling bins, knocked over two poles separating the street from the campus, and crashed into a bike rack next to the Fine Arts building, according to witnesses. The accident also left damage to the Fine Arts building.

"I'm surprised," said Shigero Isoda, a 26-year-old SF State senior from Japan. "I just want to know about the driver."

Air bags in the car were deployed and medics put the two women in neck braces, but the braces were evetually removed.

Three campus police cars and an ambulance responded to the scene, which included trails of dirt and car parts.

The front and side of the car were damaged along with the left side mirror. In addition, approximately eight bicycles were totaled.

Campus police questioned at the scene declined to comment. Repeated calls were also placed to campus police after the incident, but they did not return the phone calls by press time.

Audrey Buright, a 22-year-old SF State junior from Sonoma County, said, "I couldn't figure out how it happened. It doesn't make me feel unsafe. I just don't understand how it happened."
