Jabari Jones
Age: 14
School: Metwest High School
Hometown: Oakland
Interests: graffiti art, caricatures, skateboarding
If you see a random drawing somewhere at Metwest High School, chances are Jabari Jones drew it. Jones, the youngest BAMMA participant, has been creative since he was a toddler. Back then he was doodling anything that popped into his head, on any surface he could find. Now a sophomore, Jones still has that imaginative spirit. But now, he is much more than an artist. He manages to find time for his other favorite hobby: skateboarding. Jones, who's been skateboarding for three years, says he loves skating because "I love to have fun and I love the feeling in improving in what I do." Jabari is beyond an artist, beyond a journalist, beyond a skater. He is the creative soul of BAMMA. -- Taj Simmons
Renee AntIpuesto
Age: 15
School: San Leandro High School
Hometown: San Leandro
Interests: journalism, swimming, reading, writing, drawing
Reneé Antipuesto, a spunky Filipina, is involved in many activities in high school. She wants to be a newscaster because it integrates her love for writing and acting. The lessons that she learned from her acting class did not go to waste; she learned to be confident when speaking in front of others, and this self-assurance will help her when she is in front of the camera. She wants to attend UC Berkeley. Currently, she is going to a college prep high school where she has a diverse group of friends. "We're all different: some nerd, some ghetto, some rockers. I want variety." -- Patty Chen
Jorge Iniguez
Age: 17
School: Lowell High School
Hometown: San Francisco

Jorge never stops breathing sports. His older brothers introduced him to sports at a young age. He spends his time watching games, looking up players' stats, and listening to sports. Whether it's basketball, football, or baseball, high school, college or professional sports, Jorge is on it. "Sports is everything to me. I don't know what I would do without it." Everyone has goals when they're in school, and Jorge Iñiguez's goal right now is to get a job and save money to go to college. What does he want to do in college? Anything to do with sports; having a sports broadcasting internship, being a sports player, or joining a sports club. -- Alberto Azurdia
Taj Simmons
Age: 17
School: San Leandro High School
Hometown: San Leandro
Interests: "Old school" rap music, playing instruments, baseball
Taj Simmons enjoys playing the bass guitar and electric guitar. He also played saxophone, drums, and cello, but because of school budget problems and time management issues, he quit playing those instruments. Taj plays on his school's baseball team, writes for the school paper, and is a big fan of A Tribe Called Quest. He says his favorite class at San Leandro High is journalism because "it's helped me to realize what I should be doing in the future." He is confident that BAMMA will improve his knowledge, skill and experience in journalism. After graduating, Taj plans to attend San Diego State University and major in communications. -- Jabari Jones

Our job is to share that information and journalism does that." Weld has been active in Berkeley Rep.'s theatre department. She wants to go to NYU because of its strong art and music department, or UCLA because of its drama department. She is passionate about gay and lesbian rights and getting rid of Prop 8, saying, "everyone deserves equal rights." -- Luz Elena Hernandez

"That isn't creative. I want to produce my own art, not someone else's," Tiffany says. Her new passion is photography, and she sees herself pursuing photojournalism. She likes how a photo makes her feel like she's still there, viewing the scene. She also has always loved writing, specifically news writing. "I like learning about people's lives.
