City officials need to refocus on crime

Is there any safe place in San Francisco? Probably not.

Already this year, over 32 homicides have occurred within San Francisco. Even neighborhoods like Bernal Heights and Glen Park, normally quiet, residential neighborhoods, have experienced a spike in muggings in recent months.

Last year, the police department increased foot patrols to bring crime rates down.

It appears like these extra officers have not made the expected impact with bringing crime down.

San Francisco needs a major overhaul to make the city safer to live in.

As Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. wrote in Time magazine about New York City and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, “The best cure for destructive sprawl is to build cities people don’t want to abandon, places where they can live healthily, fulfilling lives in densities that don’t devour our landscapes, pave our wilderness and pollute our watersheds, air and wildlife.”

Who would want to live in a city where there’s a permanent high possibility of a crime happening near you or even to you?

Our city leaders need to start rethinking how this city is run. Most of the city supervisors are progressive politicians who thrive on snubbing anything that does not fit in with their philosophy (i.e., Chris Daly) while Mayor Gavin Newsom appears to be all talk, no action.

Most of the time, he seems like nothing more than a figure for ladies to swoon over.

Instead of working to bring in more police officers and make San Francisco more affordable to live in, our city leaders instead approved measures that would fine city residents $100 if their recycling bins are visible from the street. Merely visible.

That’s totally sending the vibe that San Francisco is a friendly and fun place to live.

Our city leaders need to not worry about being progressive and instead work toward making this city the great city it should be.

Write to your district supervisor and tell them what they should do to make this city better.

Urge them to recruit more police officers to secure our city from agents of evil.

The city is not beyond repair and all it will take is actual leadership.
