No matter how lame these reality television shows are on MTV, i.e. Paris Hilton’s “My New BFF,” and the new show, “Bromance,” I find myself hooked to the latter and I can’t figure out why.
“Bromance” is a new television show that first aired on December 9th at 9:00 p.m. on MTV. The show is all about Hollywood socialite and friend of Lauren “LC” Conrad, Brody Jenner. He’s trying to find a new friend to replace ex “bro” Spencer Pratt due to their falling out last year on another reality show, (my favorite,) “The Hills.”
It is interesting to me how MTV keeps making the same types of shows over and over again, and they never get played out. I know I’m still hooked and no matter how much I talk bad about the shows and make fun of them, I still end up watching them.
“Watching Paris Hiltons ‘My New BFF’ was like my guiltiest of pleasures. At first I thought, here we go another reality show, but it’s like the only thing on because they play it like all the time. You have to watch it,” said Jessa Panagakis, a women studies major.
I don’t watch them as they air, (I use DVR,) but I am still fascinated to know what Brody will put these guys through to become his friend. I don’t think any of this is real, I mean, he can’t seriously be trying to make a friend out of this show, can he?
“I think the show is just stupid, and the fact that these guys think it’s cool to be a ‘bro’ and are willing to do dumb things to become this famous guys friend is just really stupid,” said Jessica Cain, a communications major.
The show is said to end every episode ‘when a rejected ‘bro’ is asked to leave the bachelor pad dripping wet during a hot tub elimination ceremony,’ according to MTV.com. The idea that nine guys are will be soaking in a hot tube together is a little strange to me. It makes me wonder who the show is geared to, girls or guys?
“Honestly I am so over this reality type stuff, I cant take it anymore. I watch better shows, like Project Runway, Top Model and CNN. They have much better content and are much more a better use of my time,” said 22-year-old Matthew Wright.
No matter what the case, I know that MTV would not keep producing reality television shows if they were not watched by our generation. I know that when it’s late on a Tuesday night and all you can find on TV are re-runs of “The Hills,” you watch them. I guess all that’s left now is to accept it.
