Electronic music fans or those who just love to dance are invited to hear local musicians share their latest beats and rhythms in the Future Forward Festival Sept. 26 at Mezzanine in San Francisco.

“It is an unconventional music festival that is designed [for] like-minded artists [to get] together to celebrate the achievements they have made,” said Spillman, the event organizer. “Artists here in the Bay Area care about evolving music and creating something different instead of doing something that’s been already done.”

The festival begins at noon and consists of showcases by 20 local artists and an expo that includes software demonstrations, vendors, local DJs, seminars, laptop artists and video installations. The night concert starts at 7 p.m. and features Bonobo, B. Fleischmann, Christian Kleine, Fort Knox Five, Run_Return and Thunderball Feat.

Spillman came up with the idea for the event when he was at a bar in the Mission District listening to scratch guitarist, the Genie. He was mesmerized by the beat, and inspired to create a forum for local talents to show off their work, and in turn be recognized on a larger scale. Spillman believes that talented local musicians often lack a support system
