The San Francisco Columbarium, located at 1 Loraine Court between Stanyan and Arguello, is a historic cemetary building that was abandoned in the 1934 and reopened in 1980. Emmitt Watson is the caretaker, gardener, historian and tourguide for the San Francisco Columbarium, and has learned a lot about death, life and family in over 20 years working there.

Along with the classical austerity of the early memorials, there are decorative displays for the more recent arrivals. Messages and offerings placed there by the friends and families of the departed overflow onto the counters and floors.
