The search continues for international relations major Herminder Singh Sidhu, 28, two months after he left his Fremont home one morning to study at SF State’s library and never returned home.
Police say they have exhausted all leads in the investigation of his disappearance, and still do not know where he is or what has happened to him.
“This is definitely still an open case,” said Fremont Police Detective Julie Terry. “He is still missing and has not had contact with family or friends that I’ve been advised of.”
Sidhu left his house at about 8 a.m. on Jan. 2 after telling his father he would be home in a few hours. He had just returned from a trip to South Lake Tahoe, where he was partying on New Year’s Eve, but that morning he was alert and rested after 8 hours of sleep, according to his family.
The evening of Jan. 3, his car, a white Honda Accord, was found near Devil’s Slide, near the town of Pacifica. After the car was discovered, Sidhu’s friends told his parents that he used to go rock climbing with them on the cliffs there, which rise above the ocean.
Amarjit Sidhu said he and his wife asked police to fingerprint their son’s car after it was found, but they refused.
There have been no clues to his whereabouts, according to police, even after rescue teams searched the cliffs and Sidhu’s parents paid for divers to look for him in the waters below them. Neither the police nor his family say they have any reason to believe he committed suicide.
“We have searched all types of scenarios to try to find an answer,” said Terry. “We have come up with nothing at all.”
Sidhu’s father, Amarjit Sidhu, said he has absolutely no reason to believe his son would have reason to kill himself.
“He was doing really well,” Amarjit Sidhu said. “He had a good job, was going to school and was a really jolly man.”
Sidhu’s family and friends raised a $10,000 reward for anyone who offers credible information about his disappearance. Sidhu’s parents are asking for anyone who may have knowledge about who their son planned to meet, or what his plans may have been for that day, to please come forward.
Terry said she received two phone calls but the information given was not helpful. She added the police department wants to know everything possible about the case, and anyone with information is asked to call the police department.
“Even if it is the slightest bit of information (it would help),” she said. “So, (then) we can follow up on any and all leads.”
Sidhu was last seen wearing jeans, a gray sweatshirt, a light tan jacket and a black beanie. He has brown eyes and black hair and a goatee. He is about 5'10'' and weighs about 180 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fremont Police Department at 510-790-6928.
