Samurais, knights, robots and people of all ages gathered in Justin Herman Plaza as part of the first Cardboard Tube Fighting League tournament in San Francisco.

The free event involved more than 50 people beating each other with cardboard tubes in individual rounds depending on the amount of participants. Oct. 29’s six-round tourney ended with Aline Xayasouk aka Sushi, a 20-year-old student at the University of California, Berkeley.

The CTFL was started in Seattle this summer by Santa Cruz, CA born Robert Easley. The 27-year-old social worker says he takes his inspiration for the league from the Canadian group newmindspace, who may be best known for its pillow fight tour around North America.

On Friday outside a museum in Toronto the group will be hosting a 1,600 lightsaber battle in Toronto but instead of lightsabers they’ll be wielding cardboard tubes doused in UV paint with adjacent UV lights.
