MS walk impacts student lives

In May of 2004, SF State student Dell Brooks woke up the morning after his girlfriend’s birthday party and realized the whole right side of this body was numb. After countless tests and scans, doctors concluded Brooks had Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 32. Brooks, a double major in Political Science and Business Administration, has had four MS attacks since then, including an attack that made him lose his ability to speak. “It’s very difficult when your brain is moving, but your speech functions do not work,” said Brooks. “You just want to punch the world.” In March of 2007 he had an episode that stole his ability to walk. After a month of physical therapy and re-learning how to walk, another attack occurred, putting him back at the starting gate. On Sunday, May 4 Brooks was joined by his friends at the annual MS Walk in San Francisco. “I appreciate life so much,” said Brooks. “It’s a precious thing.” Click the link on the right to view the multimedia...
