In their first off-campus fashion show ever, the Student Fashion Association will be showcasing sports wear, plus-sized designs and Indian-inspired outfits. The SFA is taking their annual spring show, titled "Metamorphosis," to the Terra Gallery, which is said to be second best venue to Bryant Park for fashion-related events, on Thursday at 7 p.m. The fashion show features a total of 24 designers creating a total of 11 pieces, which will create about of seven or eight different outfits. SFA officials have been adamant about taking their show off campus and building a reputation for themselves. "We feel like it is time for our organization and people in our department to have more local exposure," said SFA President Ashley Gree n. "Just because our school isn't a design-based school like others such as FIDM and the Academy of Art doesn't mean that we can't compete within the industry," Designers in the show agree with Green. Matthew Robinson, one of the show's designers, explained how he found his inspiration for his collection. "My collection is inspired from an Indian girl coming to America and trying to dress more American. I want my collection to be wearable and chic for the women on the go, and not only for the Indian women. I was inspired by the traditional bright colors. I feel like the colors give the garments energy," said Robinson. He has completed five of his looks already, and is hoping to finish two more by the end of the week. His collection includes two plus-size looks, bright sports wear, and a couple dresses. "I am very excited about the show. I wish this was all I was doing this semester so I could do all that I wanted to do," said Robinson. Ten SFA members have been dedicated to the preparation and production of this show since the beginning of the semester. Julia Meeks, public relations officer for SFA and a designer in the show, confirmed that the show will include industry professionals such as Visions of le Moda, owner of Metier Sheri Evans, Babette and many more. "It is important for our organization to be showcased among various respected people within the industry," said Meeks. However, the students also said that new obstacles came with their new endeavors. SFA is pressured to sell 500 tickets for the event to balance the cost, prompting them to have ticket sales online for the first time. They are selling tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/61391. Tickets can be purchased up to an hour prior to the show. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for ages 5 to 12. "I am very excited that designers and merchandisers were able to come together and create this show," said Green. "Also, I am proud that it's off campus and we are looking forward to a good turnout."
