Stay in and Play: Rumble with the Warriors
New game isn't just a pixelated reenactment

Warriors, come out and play-ee-ay! Rockstar Games, developers of the infamous Grand Theft Auto series, deliver another crimp in politicians’ undergarments with "The Warriors," paying homage to the 1979 cult-classic gangster flick of the same name. But while most videogames adapted from movies typically suck, "The Warriors," like a selfish girlfriend, doesn’t.

The game isn’t simply a pixelated reenactment of the movie. The developers added to the original story line, starting three months prior to the night the gang is accused of shooting a rival gang leader. With hours of gameplay, a two-player arena-style rumble mode and two-player cooperative mode, adults (sorry kiddies, this title carries a well-deserved mature rating) will be stuck to the sticks till their fingers get sore.

In order to survive and build a solid street rep, players must tag walls, rob stores, mug people, pop “flash” (a drug that restores health), jack car stereos and, of course, brawl with the rival gangs (think Double Dragon with modern graphics and blood). But look out for the coppers; they don’t take too kindly to vandalism and violence. On a positive note, there aren’t any guns … but there are bats, pipes, two by fours, bottles, knives, Molotovs and pretty much anything else you can grab to take out opponents.

So play with yourself … or get a friend and play the two-player cooperative mode. As you progress, characters and levels for the two-player rumble mode are unlocked so you can fight each other one-on-one or gang-on-gang. It’s trashcan-to-the-face fun that will keep people playing long after they’ve beaten the game.

Can you dig it, suckas?
