Fall 2006 - it’s an exciting time for online publication. I should pinch myself. Here I am, editing an online magazine that, as far as I can tell, has few censorship concerns. Add to that the talented and eclectic piroshki that is our staff and it’s open sailing on the good ship funkiness.
We’ll be publishing weekly and featuring the topics of God and Religion as well as the highbrow themes of Sex, Vice, and Nightlife. The Bay Area is an awesome place to be doing this and we'll be bringing some good stories. We’ll be touching on some explicit material though, so bring an open parachute…er…mind. Minds are like parachutes…
Anyway, stay tuned for pictures of “Tourist of the week” and pieces on Armenian rock ‘n’ roll, stripping, gasoline and - woo-hoo - recycling.
In addition to our staff, we are lucky to have a few excellent advisors for the magazine.
Advising Professor John Burks was recently mentioned in the 1000th issue of Rolling Stone:
“The Altamont issue followed…The long, long story – edited principally by managing editor John Burks, out of contributions from a score or more of writers – began with Burks’ interview with an eyewitness to the [Hells] Angel’s murder of fan Meredith Hunter of Berkeley… What we ran satisfied no one at Rolling Stone, but it fixed the meaning of the event for all time everywhere.”
-Contributing Rolling Stone editor Greil Marcus
Professor Don Menn has produced numerous publications and was maging editor of Guitar Player magazine. He is CEO and Publisher of LOUD magazine and he also claims he didn’t learn to read until the 6th grade.
Our online advisor, professor Andrew DeVigal, will be leaving us shortly…to be the multimedia editor for the online section of the New York Times! Jeah! Don’t worry; we’ll still get all the bells and whistles going on the site.
It should be fun times and good reading for the next three months, so come check it out.
