In honor of the twentieth anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake, SF State geoscience professor John Caskey gives SF a quick overview on how earthquakes work and reflects on their impact to the Bay Area. Earthquakes are prominent in the area due to the number of faultlines beneath us. Professor Caskey also talks the probability of an earthquake in the Bay Area today.
