Bay Spill
 

After a Cosco Busan freighter struck the Bay Bridge on Wednesday and released 58,000 gallons of oil into the Bay, only 9,500 gallons have been recovered in cleanup efforts.

A state of emergency for the area, has been declared by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and over 20 local beaches are now closed as a result of the spill.

While the tide flows under the Golden Gate, the oil is thinning out and spreading further from the spill site, making it more difficult to clean up. Wildlife covered in oil and tar balls are being found San Francisco beaches to Marin and Sonoma counties.

Rodeo Beach in Sausalito, Calif., has been considered a high impact and high priority area effected by the oil spill that leaked 58,000 gallons in to San Francisco Bay Wednesday morning after a cargo ship hit the Bay Bridge .The oil has flowed as far away as 10 miles off the coast from the Golden Gate Bridge, and has extended from San Francisco’s Ocean Beach up to Marin County’s Stinson Beach.
