The Freshmen and Coach of the Year awards were voted on by the [X]press sports staff. The male and female Athlete of the Year, voted by the public and sports staff, will be announced in next week’s issue.

[X]press Freshmen of the Year

Robert Hayes (Men’s Basketball)
Hayes earned Freshman of the Year All-CCAA honors and First Team All-CCAA. He led the team in points per game (12.1), steals (50) and was second in total points (350) and assists (61).

Kendra Wood (Softball)
Wood took home Second Team All-CCAA and First Team All-West Region. She was tied for the team lead with seven home runs while batting .312 and knocked in 30.

Bill Treseler (Men’s Basketball)
In Treseler’s third season at the helm of the men’s basketball team, the Gators were ranked last in the preseason coaches poll. The team surprised the conference with a 17-12 record and the team’s first playoff berth since 1994-1995, earning Treseler CCAA coach of the year.

Cristina Byrne (Softball)
In Byrne’s first season as the Gator softball coach she took at team full of freshmen within one game of making the Western Region playoffs.
