For the second straight year, the SF State men's basketball team championship aspirations have ended.

The Gators lost to the top-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 57-44 in the CCAA first round playoffs on Tuesday night, concluding the 2008-09 season at 14-13 overall and 8-12 in conference play.

After falling behind early (32-12), the Gators could not mount a comeback, especially against the best defensive team in Division II. The Broncos held SF State to 44 points, its lowest output of the season.

Last year, the Gators won their first round playoff game against Cal State LA before being eliminated by UC San Diego.

The team will return to SF State on Wednesday.
