For most of the 2009 season, SF State's baseball team has had its heart broken in close games more often than not. In their home finale Saturday at Maloney Field, the Gators were able to turn the table on their opponent.

On the team's official senior day, it was a junior who came up big during the second game of the doubleheader against CSU Monterey Bay.

Zach Anderson provided the last of the heroics in the Gators 10-8 win. He put the finishing touches on the team's come-from-behind victory by knocking a two-RBI single to center field.

"We're pretty used to getting down early," Anderson said. "It feels real good to come from behind and get a win."

Anderson, who was named CCAA player of the week, was dialed in the entire series.

He had a .529 batting average with five RBIs, five runs and a home run during the weekend series.

"It felt really good. I've been hitting the ball pretty solid for the whole series," Anderson said. "Coming through out there was pretty huge."

The Gators were down seemingly from the first pitch, surrendering four runs to the Otters in the first inning. CSU Monterey Bay tacked on two more runs in the second to give them a comfortable 6-1 lead. They weren't comfortable for long.

Anderson and company refused to go away, gradually chipping their way back into the game.

"[There was] no pressure, definitely. We were down four runs and we hadn't even gotten to bat yet," said SF State outfielder Bobby Carini. "Everyone knew we could hit the ball."

SF State fed off of the vocal home crowd, which was one of the largest of the season. The energy from the fans gave the home team the spark they needed to start their comeback.

The rally picked up steam in the second inning, as the Gators were able to tack on three runs, cutting the Otters' lead to 6-4.

CSU Monterey Bay scored a run in the third and fourth innings to balloon their lead back to four runs. But once again, the Gators refused to lay down, lighting up the scoreboard for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

With the Otters clinging to a narrow 8-7 lead in the fifth, Carini tied the game with an RBI double to left, scoring infielder Sean Proni. The SF State senior didn't want to leave Maloney field with a bad taste in his mouth.

"You definitely don't want to go without a hit on your last day," Carini said. "Overall it was a fun day to go out there and get two wins."

SF State was also able to drown the Otters' chances at victory in the first game of the afternoon, taking a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning off of Ryan Williams' two-run home run with two outs in the inning.

The Gators added an insurance run in the eighth, giving them a 7-4 win.

Both victories allowed the Gators to part with Maloney Field for the remainder of the season on a good note, sweeping the doubleheader. SF State improved their record to 14-29 on the year.

The Gators play their final series of the year this weekend on the road against CSU San Bernardino, giving SF State a chance to double their win total from last season.
