With only two weeks separating the SF State's Men's Basketball Team and their season opener in Anaheim, the Gators held their first official practice of the season last Thursday Oct. 15 at the campus gymnasium.

While the first practice of the year is never flawless, head coach Bill Treseler was pleased for the most part with what he saw out of his team.

"In terms of executing our offense and some of the drills we do, those guys were totally ready to go and that's a credit to them and the assistant coaches," Treseler said. "I think we're at a pretty good point for the first day of practice, we just got to keep pushing."

The Gators focused on physical drills like boxing out in their first practice, something Tresler wanted to implement to get the team ready for what he expects to be a physical season.

With only four players returning from last year's roster, new players will be expected to get acclimated into the team's system quickly and to make key contributions to the team immediately.

One of the aforementioned new players, Marquel Hoskins, liked what he saw in his first official practice at SF State and is looking forward to the physical play.

"The first practice was intense, physical and a lot of learning. It was pretty good," he said.

Besides preparing for the season, returning players like Derek Fletcher were excited to practice with a squad of mostly new teammates.

"To get out there and see were everyone's at, I look forward to it," Fletcher said.

The Gators will begin practicing daily until their season begins Oct. 30 at the Disney Classic basketball tournament in Anaheim.
