Some of the most widely accepted scientific theories are in for a shake-up, according to Manjira Samanta-Laughton M.D, the young, sassy and perhaps revolutionary, U.K author of Punk Science, who spoke at SF State as one stop on a her book tour. Her message; its time to question the current scientific model, and shift the very paradigm within which it exists.
“When the data doesn’t fit the theory, its time for a new theory,” said Samanta-Laughton, who discussed radical discoveries that have been taking place in Science, Quantum Physics and Cosmology which point to glaring flaws in the official story of the universe, from the Big Bang theory and the current view of black holes, to the mystery of dark matter¬¬–which is not understood or even accounted for. There are many unanswered questions and unsubstantiated conclusions in the theories being taught and still being pursued by scientists, even though, she said in reference to the Big Bang, "We don't even know what banged!"
Dr. Samanta-Laughton introduced an alternate theory which she calls the Black Hole Principle, which places Black Holes as being the creative forces of the universe, and flips many previously held assumptions.
Black holes have been making headlines in recent years, as scientists have begun to find them in the center of every galaxy in which they have looked with telescope data, and also find them spotted throughout the galaxies. All evidence points to black holes existing in our very own galaxy as well, and they are not what they had been thought to be.
Until recently, the current scientific model explained Black Holes as being the end of collapsed stars--destructive forces whose gravitational pull and density is so massive that it pulls everything around inside, not letting anything, even light escape. They have also been largely theoretical concepts, often left to the realm of science fiction, since no evidence of black holes had actually been seen until recently.
Samantha-Laughton shared findings that show black holes are actually emitting light and energy and as radical astro-physicists and others have predicted, young blue stars have recently been found outside of them, supporting a theory that black holes may well be the key to the creation of our very galaxies.
“They are actually spewing out some very fast material. It took a moment of inspiration for me to see it, said Samanta-Laughton, “but I suddenly understood that black holes are not the destructive monsters people think they are, they are actually the creative forces of the universe. We think they are black, because they are actually in higher dimensions that are beyond our normal perception – beyond the speed of light.”
According to her theory, instead of there being an event horizon around black holes, as we’ve been told, there is a perception horizon.
She went on to further explain her theory; “Black holes are really the source of the light from infinity, that steps down a few dimensions to get to ours, and then produces material-- which we see coming out of nowhere at the speed of light, because that is where we can first perceive it.
“Not only that, but this same creative force occurs at every level of the universe. I have accumulated evidence for the same process going on in atoms, in stars and planets and even our DNA.”
In Samanta-Laughton’s book, Punk Science, she delves deeper into the implications that Black Hole Principle has for understanding many areas of life, from the microcosmic level to weather patterns, supermassive black holes and even spiritual and metaphysical experiences.
Samanta-Laughton is no longer a practicing physician but comes from a traditional medical background; she is also a licensed holistic health care practitioner and has worked in a cancer center in the UK. She gradually became dissatisfied with the Newtonian view that is so dominant in medicine and science, which she found to be limiting and lacking in soul, so she set out to find a link between spirituality and science. She began studying cosmology and quantum physics as a hobby, which led her to the emerging research that, “Shows that the atom and matter is not so solid after all, and in fact there is an interactive effect between mind, thought and matter,”
Though there is scientific evidence to support the concept eastern thinkers have documented for thousands of years--that consciousness is fundamental to reality—many scientists and doctors have steered clear of anything resembling the spiritual. But backed by solid research, Samanta-Laughton brings a fresh and adventurous approach to science at a time when some would have us believe that that we have conquered all major frontiers of scientific discovery and have the framework all figured out.
“It sounds crazy but once you start looking at these things, the evidence is there to support it,” said Samanta-Laughton, who added that by shifting the Newtonian paradigm and pushing the limits of the current model, we learn more about our own creative potential as well.
“I somehow knew I would leave medicine to follow this path of being a speaker and author. What really did it for me were the patients, said Samanta-Laughton, “I knew that patients could be helped if we only understood the universe more. Medicine is based on an outdated science and I set out to show this, but found an awful lot more!”
