THE BEST DAY IN CITY HALL

Today was SUCH AN AMAZING AND EXCITING DAY!!!

I had so much fun! It was such a great experience since I got to do most of the multimedia jobs that professional journalists do as a regular job assignment. I’ve always dreamed on becoming a reporter and today my dream has finally came true. After lunch, we divided our BAMMA family into groups to begin our multimedia assignment on same-sex marriage in City Hall, San Francisco. My group included Monica, Edgar, Ramon, Eric, and Ryan, and our group assignment was to talk to the workers working on this special day.

When BAMMA arrived at City Hall, we saw about forty people standing in front of the entrance. Luckily, there were no protestors causing aggressive drama on this beautiful day. As we went inside the building, my first interview was from a SI student that donated her time to help organize this event. During my first interview, I realized that as a journalist, I have to come prepared with questions in order to get good information from people. After learning my first lesson, I interviewed a musician and the interview went more smoothly and less awkward because I took some thought on the questions that I needed to get from her.

The interview that stands out in my memory the most is when Monica and I interviewed SF mayor, Gavin Newsom! At first, Monica and I were very nervous but thank god because Ms. D wrote down the question for Monica to ask the mayor. While Monica was doing her job, I stood there nervously while trying to record the mayor’s answers.

Another memory from today that stands in my mind was when I got to witness same-sex couples getting married around a circle of people. Seeing them get married made me really happy because their faces expressed such joy because they've waited so long to get married. All in all, today I experienced three things for the first time. From my first day on being a student journalist, I first experienced taking a muni, witnessing same-sex couples celebrating their love and marriage, and, interviewing and taking videos of this historical day. YAYYY!
