Finding the College That’s Right for You

Ayesha Reese, International Studies Academy, Wat it do, ISA? (Spring 2007):

I surveyed colleges in the Bay Area to get an opinion on what colleges ISA students like myself might want to attend. I also did it to get a feel for some of the great colleges in the Bay Area.

The colleges that I chose to research are San Francisco State, UC Berkeley, University of San Francisco, Stanford University, St. Mary’s College, and Hayward State. I think that these are all great colleges to choose from.

Most of the students I interviewed chose San Francisco State as their first choice. Most of them said because “It’s close to where I live.” To me, SF State is a great college to go to. They have ten top majors, and the top three are Business, Psychology and Biology.

It costs $3,000 a year just to attend. In the fall semester of 2005 there were 29,628 students overall attending. The campus is diverse, according to the university Web site. The school started accepting applications in October 1.

UC Berkeley was students’ second choice. One student wrote that the reason that they would attend UC Berkeley is because it is a good school and it is diverse.

The thing that a lot of people might not know is that it costs a lot of money to go to Berkeley.

If you are living in a dorm at Berkeley it costs $24,272 a year to go there. That is the total living cost and it includes food, books, supplies, housing, utilities, transportation, and tuition fees.

Living off campus costs $21,014 at Berkeley. If you live with relatives then you would be charged $16,456. Non-resident students have to pay $42,956 if you’re living in a residence hall, $39,698 if you’re living off campus, and $35,140 if you’re living with a relative.

These are all very important things that you need to know when it comes to applying to college.

Stanford is one of the top schools in the nation and is located in Palo Alto. More than 7,500 Stanford students are currently pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees, which are higher education degrees.

If you are into sports, I would apply to this university. Stanford, which has 35 athletic teams, has earned a total of 105 national championships, according to Kendall Johnson, a media spokeswoman for Stanford.

Academically, Stanford also has more than 60 departments and programs in seven different schools.

Those are the best schools so far that I have found out about. Now that you know this information you can really determine what college is better for you to go to.

Personally, I am thinking about going to San Francisco State because one of their top majors is business and I want my business degree. Business is a very good major because you can do so much with your business degree, like start your own business.
