The Problem with Cell Phones

Katherine Chavez, International Studies Academy, Wat it do, ISA? (Spring 2007):

Cell phones are a big part of everyone’s daily life, even if it’s just because you love to talk for no reason at all. For many people, it’s impossible to live without them. Now imagine if talking on the cell phone would threaten your life and put you at risk of getting cancer.

It is still not completely proven, because studies have shown various different results, but it can be possible for cell phone use to put you at risk, according to HowStuffWorks.com.

No connections were found between power lines and cancer but, on the other hand, cell phone radiation causes damage. Both of theses issues have continued to contradict each other, according to reports on HowStuffWorks.com

Cancer is not the only illness and ailment that has potential links to cell phone radiation. Brain tumors, Alzheimer’s, fatigue and headaches might also be linked, the Web site reported.

Blue tooth, one of the hands-free set for your cell phone, is still a threat to you because they receive and send signals. Headsets, which are plugged into the cell phone, don’t cause any damage because the cell phone still receives the signals so the radiation does not affect the brain.

If you are worried about the potential hazards of cell phone radiation, here are few ways to reduce your risk:
• Use a hands-free headset.
• Use a phone that places the antenna as far away from you as possible.
• Limit calls inside buildings.
• Use the phone in open spaces as often as possible.
• Limit use by children.
Sure, cell phones are a great piece of technology but they might also put your health at risk. So next time you use your cell phone, think twice.
