Divorced and widowed women are included in this figure, but it is clear that many women are also choosing to marry later in life—the average age of first marriages has increased from 20 in 1960 to 26 today. Kara, along with countless other women, is out to prove that marriage is not a necessary component for happiness. “It’s more like icing on the cake as opposed to the full meal,” she says.

CFA Rally Foreshadows Possible Strikes

The union that represents the SF State chapter of California State University faculty members held an informational picket on campus yesterday after contract negotiations stalled again. Local Literati Take Over San Francisco's Mission District

The culmination of a nine-day annual literary festival called Litquake, Litcrawl was an evening that allowed Bay Area residents and visitors to sample the flavors of local writers in diverse settings. With more than 150 authors performing in 31 venues, Litcrawl offered a broader selection of literature than most pubs offer beer, including a handful affiliated with SF State.

Program Offers On-Campus Reproductive Services

As of August, it's a lot easier for SF State students to avoid pregnancy thanks to Family PACT (Planning Access Care Treatment), a new program at Student Health Services that offers free reproductive health care. The Family PACT provides family planning and reproductive health care for low-income California residents.
