Guiding the Way

In the Fall of 2005, SF State united with Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael to create the first Guide Dog Mobility Program in the world to reach University level. Wendy Mellberg Haecker is one of the first students to go through the program and found it has allowed her to see with more than just her eyes.

Local Actor Twists His Body, Face and Accent to Bring Nigerian Voices to SF

San Francisco actor and journalist Dan Hoyle spent 10 months in 2005 traveling the fiery landscape of Nigeria, meeting warlords, prostitutes, ambassadors, Scots and snipers. He has brought those people to the stage in the form of “Tings Dey Happen".

Unexpected Treasures of Ancient Italy at the J. Paul Leonard Library

While a few venture up out of curiosity, most library goers are unaware the floor is home to the Frank V. de Bellis Collection, a museum-library of Italian culture that has been part of SF State since 1963.

Students Open Free Health Clinic in the Mission

There are approximately 82,000 San Franciscans, between the ages of 18-65, without health insurance. SF State and UCSF Students are hoping to do their part to alleviate the problem by opening a free primary care clinic in the Mission District.

Gators Fail To Penetrate Roadrunners' Defense

The SF State Mens Basketball team came up short as they tried to turn a roadblock into a hurdle on Friday at the Swamp. The roadblock came in the form of the soon to be Division I Bakersfield Roadrunners who defeated the Gators 80-64.
The Roadrunners displayed a seemingly impenetrable defense that forced 23 turnovers while using their size advantage to out-rebound the Gators.

Cross Country Runs Smarter Not Harder

The SF State cross country team finished the highest in Gator history at the home invitational, by running smarter instead of harder. Cross country coach Tom Lyons has taught his athletes to run at their own pace so that they would be strong at the end of the race and possibly pass up other runners.

SF State Student Crochets to Pay Bills

When Dream Nefra started to make crocheted hats for profit she needed to borrow $10 because she couldnt afford the needle and yarn. Now she has crocheted for celebrities. The 36-year-old business entrepreneurship major started TheNefraShop.com after she crocheted one hat for a classmate. Now SF State students can see her and her hats on campus.

Red Bull and Alcohol Make a Dangerous Combination

Ryan Coughlin is a self-proclaimed caffeine addict. I drink Red Bull in everything, said the 25-year-old senior kinesiology major. And so, like many of the interviewed SF State students, his alcoholic drink of choice is Red Bull and vodka.
