Out with the Old, In with the New

Life seems to move slowly behind the gates of Treasure Island. As visitors descend to the naval base entrance, beyond the restless traffic of I-80 and the officer’s quarters of Yerba Buena, they are met by sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay. Treasure Island has come to be called a “ghost town” since it was decommissioned in 1996, but the formal naval base is home to a growing new population of residents – and that change has not necessarily been for the better.

Metal Levels Still Plague Tuna Industry
Fish is a very healthy food, but the drawbacks of mercury, particularly in certain species, should be considered. This is especially the case for young children and fetuses. However, eating fish is still extremely healthy, it is just important to avoid or limit the intake of high mercury species, especially canned albacore tuna.
