An Edwardian Evening
A cocktail and a handshake led executive producer Justin Katz and a few friends to form the Edwardian Ball in honor of artist Edward Gorey. Seven celebrations later Katz seems to have struck a chord with his attendees who have made the ball a hit and a San Francisco tradition. This year's Edwardian Ball has had great success and shows promise for future events.

Students Embrace Displays of Affection
Some SF State students are members of the Free Hugs Campaign, a recently popular international campaign aimed at the random act of kindness that is a free hug. The campaign was started in 2004 by an Australian man under the alias of Juan Mann. According to the Free Hugs Campaign Web page, Juan Mann returned home from London after his world was turned “upside down.”

War with Words
The Swearing Festival, one of several events held at Edinburgh Castle Pub, celebrated the culture of cursing on February 18, 2006. During the evening scholars analyzed, and patrons embraced, expletive expression. The event’s organizer hoped that hearing and discussing profanity in all its different forms would instill the desire within the crowd to reflect on their own use of language and choices in daily communication.
