English Remediation Program To Be Cut
On Monday, Nov. 29 the SF State Counsel for Academic Affairs had a meeting that consisted of its typical members: the deans of each college and the university provost. But this meeting was not typical. On this day English professors Helen Gillotte-Tropp and Sugie Goen also attended to present their ideas for saving the university’s remediation program, a set of classes assisting incoming freshmen in gaining proficient English course skills. The program now stands to be eliminated by fall 2006.

Depot Attracts Monday Night Football Fans
On a typical Thursday night, the Pub and Depot in the student center at SF State is bustling with students fresh out of class. There they have a beer to unwind from a long academic day. On one table Adam Smith’s "Wealth of Nations" lays open as a guy points with one hand at a section of text while gesturing and speaking enthusiastically at a girl across from him. The buzz of conversation is deafening. But it is nothing compared to Monday night.

JEPET: A Dirty Job—But Everyone’s Got to Do It
Starting in fall 2004, students who have completed more than 100 units and have not taken the JEPET will lose priority registration. In spring 2005, students with more than 90 units will lose priority and in fall 2005 the penalty will come into full enforcement, with students who have taken more than 80 units without passing the exam losing priority.
