Katrina Relief Work 101

After spending spring break in New Orleans last April, SF State student and social justice worker, Hattie Dague was alarmed to witness the level of devastation caused by the storm. Like many students who felt compelled to help, Dague took the fall semester off from school to go back to New Orleans to do relief work.

International Baby Brigade

Day isn’t the only American adopting internationally these days. International adoption compared to domestic has steadily increased over the years and become especially popular in the U.S. In 2006, 20,679 immigrant visas were issued to children world wide who were adopted into the United States compared to 10,641 in 1996 - an increase of about 50 percent in a decade.

Crossing Guards Added to 19th and Holloway
Only the traffic lights and the crosswalks have previously maintained the delicate balance between pedestrians and drivers, but the combination of the outpouring of students from the MUNI, the fast multi-laned highway traffic and the 4-way intersection, is a dangerous combination that has had fatal consequences in the past. And since Thursday, SF State has added crossing guards to help ensure safety at this dangerous intersection.
