Pianist Hopes for a Future in America

Takashi Kawabata’s body floats up and down on the black chair before a grand piano while punching and sliding smoothly and consistently on the keys with his fingers. With the lights fixed down on him, Kawabata played his favorite piece, Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, BWV 903,” before an audience in Knuth Hall on April 13.

Tsunami Hits Parents' Business

From half a world away, the Dec. 26 tsunami that ravaged the Indian Ocean region touched the life of SF State student Patipon Sudtipongkasest. His family’s four-story hotel, on the seashore of the Patong region near Phuket, Thailand, was destroyed by the giant wave, which killed more than 200 hotel guests and 25 employees.

Pink is the New Black

On a campus where students may get lost in a sea of black hooded sweatshirts and converse, splashes of color have been popping up, in the form of pink.
Thanks to trendsetters such as Ashton Kutcher and Pharrell Williams the cotton candy color is no longer simply for women and newborn babies. Heterosexual men are now beginning to think pink.

Minorities Face More Challenges in Coming Out
Thousands of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people marched on Washington D.C. to support equal rights on Oct. 11 in 1987. People started to commemorate the event, and it became the annual occasion known as the National Coming Out Day, which is held in hundreds of cities in the United States and around the globe today.
