Hollywood in Remake Heaven
Movies often provide an escape from reality, offering an opportunity to cast aside everyday stress through creative and fresh entertainment. You pay $10 to sit in the plush, red velvet theatre seat, munch on popcorn, melt Junior Mints in your mouth and slurp on a cherry Slushy before the classic Hollywood magic begins. New Show all about Babies
With the new fall lineup for the major television networks out, commercials demand almost immediate allegiance to their shows. “Inconceivable,” a new show on NBC, isn’t much different from what other TV networks have already come up with.

To Breed or Not to Breed
Newsflash: it's not that easy, and the fact that people are realizing this is starting to show. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 44 percent of American women of childbearing age were childless in 2002. More telling, 18 percent of women ages 40 to 44 were still childless, up from 10 percent in 1976. Why aren't people breeding like they used to?

Mandonna
Close your eyes and picture Madonna as a roadie for Metallica with a stringy beard and long, dirty blonde hair meant for head-banging. Open them, and what you have is Mandonna’s frontman Mark Edwards. But instead of performing manual labor, he writhes around onstage in a hooker’s wedding dress reminiscent of Madonna’s notorious “Like a Virgin” performance at the very first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984.

Throw 'Em a Bone
Thousands of pit bulls and pit bull-mix breeds are dropped off at shelters, abandoned or removed from their owners each year, not only in the Bay Area but nationwide. The East Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) estimates that of all the dogs euthanized in 2004 in Alameda County, up to 75 percent were pit bulls and pit bull mixes. Agencies all over the Bay Area are reporting similar statistics.

Oooh Baby
While some experts believe there is logic to the theory that a woman's orgasm might improve her chances of getting pregnant, studies have yet to prove any connection between the two. But many people believe they are directly related, in more ways than one.

Getting Crunched By the Numbers
Large amounts of complex numbers representing abstract ideas scare the hell out of a lot of people. Asking questions, on the other hand, and arriving at creative answers to complex social phenomena is a bit more palatable for most of us. That's just what Levitt and Dubner do throughout "Freakonomics."

Sweet City Bees
San Francisco beekeepers face the same challenges confronting guardians of bees all over the world, but they harvest some unusual rewards. Unlike in areas with harsher weather, even 10 miles off the Bay, they are able to harvest honey year-round. San Francisco’s unique weather and climate allow keepers to collect distinct flavors of honey from the different neighborhoods of San Francisco.

4 out of 5 People Have an STD; the Future Doesn't Have To
HPV is a lesser-known sexually transmitted disease which spreads through skin-to-skin contact, so it can’t be prevented with condoms. The virus is responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancer cases and 90 percent of genital warts worldwide. The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that by the age of 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired the infection.

A Body to Match
“I knew I wasn’t a guy when I was three years old,” says “Nicole,” a tall, red headed, singer/songwriter over two years after the surgery, which was recorded in a documentary. “I looked in the mirror and saw a dick and I was like ‘that’s wrong, it will go away.’”

Robert De Niro looks pissed. Mike Myers has just made an offensive comment about De Niro’s mole. “Are you talking to me? ” De Niro sneers. The two movie stars proceed to argue but they aren’t battling it out on the red carpet. Instead they are fighting on the small screen in Christine Ancalmo’s parody “Taxi Member.”

Who's Keeping Track of the Donors?
Approximately 30,000 infants are born each year, with the assistance of some form of reproductive medicine, but do these fertility clinics and sperm banks have a limit as to how many times individual's donations of their sperm and eggs are used? Well, if they haven't in the past, they are going to be forced to in the future, to see that these medically reproduced children, aren't reproducing with other unknown blood relatives themselves.

College-Dough-Nation
More and more college students are donating their eggs and sperm at fertility clinics nationwide, but it's not as simple as it seems. The actual donating process requires an array of paperwork for both the males and females, however, the female egg donation, is a much more rigorous process then simply jacking off into a cup. The real question at large here is, "Is the money really worth it?"

The Fall of the Wild
Salmon farming took off in Washington and British Columbia during the 1980s in hopes that it would create jobs and preserve wild stocks. But today it threatens the livelihood of West Coast fishermen by creating a cheaper product competing with year-round availability. Fishermen say farmed fish are lower quality, although farmers and hatchery workers claim otherwise.

The Romantic Life of the Angelfish
Thousands of feet below the ocean’s surface, she waits for her prey, her bioluminescent lure glowing with the light of millions of bacteria. Her thin, black jelly-like skin doesn’t reflect a spec of light. It camouflages her from unsuspecting predators of the deep abyss. She opens wide and lunges, extending her flexible jaws around a lantern fish twice her size.

Robert Moog: the man with the plan
In rare moments of undetectable good vibrations, former hippies are known to close their eyes, sway back and forth and talk like the ganja has begun to hit. Then, in drawn out syllables, they’ll drop something deep and act like it came straight from the Dali Lama. More than a few will declare “if you remember the '60s, then you weren’t really there.” That’s bullshit.
