Art to Lure the Dead

Today is Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, and there is drumming out on the streets while people are spilling in and out of the Mission Cultural Center. There are street vendors selling skeletons made of wax, skeleton posters, Mexican hot chocolate and marigolds outside the center’s door.

Opening Up to Islam
Growing up under communism, the closest I came to religion was when a missionary dressed as a clown grabbed me by my hand and prayed for me. It was the early �90s when western missionaries flooded Eastern Europe to save our lost communist souls.

People of Faith Defy Sterotypes
She gets up and follows the nurse into the examination room. After she undresses and puts on the gown she is directed to another room. This room is even starker. Two beds lie side by side and the girl in the bed next to her is crying. When the doctor finally comes in for the pre-examination, he tells her that she might be too far along, and that she is going to have to wait a while.

Trinity Blood is set sometime in the very distant future, 500 years after a catastrophic war referred to only as “The Armageddon,” in which human civilization is nearly destroyed. The Armenian Food Festival

At six o’clock, well-dressed families pour in through the gates, and eagerly wait in long lines that spill out from the main dining hall. As they dine one grape leaf dolmas and pilaf, the Hamaskayin dance group performs on stage. Young women in ornate headdresses and beaded costumes smile as they swirl their hands elegantly, following each other slowly in snake like patterns.
